Through the crop circles, sacred geometry came to my attention. I discovered that patterns of numbers and their corresponding shapes exist behind all manifest reality – revealing the unity of all life. One wonderful term for sacred geometry is ‘the bones of God’, indicating the framework of divinity behind reality. Shapes such as the hexagram and the pentagram etc connect to the patterns behind life. For example the hexagram and the number 6 relates to perfection and how crystalline life forms. 5 and the pentagram relates to the way plants and humans form, and contain within it what is called the divine proportion. The divine proportion is a 1 to 1.6 ratio that exists in each arm of the pentagram and has been noted as a universal principle existing in the growth of life – for example in the proportion of the human being and the growth of plants.
What I have realized is that numbers are not a construct of humanity, they would exist outside of humanity – maths itself is a universal language, and perhaps that is one of the reasons that the crop circles are communicating in numbers and shapes.
One key example of sacred geometry is the flower of life is one pattern that has appeared in crop circles over 50 times in various forms. This is the shape of it:
Astonishingly this simple form is said to be the structure behind everything in the universe. Leonardo da Vinci studied the Flower of Life’s form and its mathematical properties. He drew the Flower of Life itself, as well as various components such as the Seed of Life. He drew geometric figures representing shapes such as the platonic solids, a sphere, and a torus, and also used the golden ratio of phi in his artwork; all of which may be derived from the Flower of Life design. As far back as Greek Mystery schools 2500 years ago, we as a species were taught that there are five perfect 3-dimensional forms -The tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron, and icosahedron. Collectively these are known as The Platonic Solids — and are the foundation of everything in the physical world. Within the Flower is also containted the Vesica Pisces which is a key symbol for the trinity in sacred geometry.
The Flower of Life was taught in the ancient mystery schools of Egypt and appears beneath the paws of the lion at the entrance to the Ancient Chinese Forbidden City, as shown below:
It has also been found engraved into the temple of Osiris in Abydos, Egypt, using a form of lazering that cannot be explained.
The Flower of Life can be found in the temples, art, and manuscripts of cultures from all over the world, and now in the temporary temples known as crop circles. The following are some of the locations in which the Flower of Life symbol has been sighted:
- Assyria – palace of Ashurbanipal.
- Egypt – the Temple of Osiris in Abydos and at Mount Sinai.
- Israel – Masada
- China – The Forbidden City and various temples
- Japan – various temples
- India – The Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Hampi, and the temples at Ajanta
- Bulgaria – ancient city of Preslav(893 BC) and in ruins of Kabile, near the city of Jambol
- Turkey – various old Roman sites
- Italy – Italian art from the 13th century (Wolfram 2002, p. 43)
- North Africa – Morocco
- Middle East – Lebanon and various Islamic mosques
- South America – Peru
- North America – Mexico
- Great Britain – in Westminster Abbey within the 13th century Cosmati pavement.
- Brooklyn – in Greenpoint within this century. Although not perceived by some as significant.
John Michell, a prolific writer on sacred geometry and ancient metrology, has been attributed with the re-enchantment of modern day Glastonbury. He has noted how a series of sacred numbers are encoded in all ancient sites – such as Stonehenge and Glastonbury.
John Michell has explained the bible Revelations in a remarkably convincing way. Basically St John was a Gnostic initiate of the mysteries and the numbers used in Revelations relate to his initiated vision of the new Jerusalem. John Michell shows how the numbers in Revelations relate to the dimensions of planet earth and therefore that his vision of the heavenly pattern, the perfect order of creation, is in fact the initiates vision of the earth as it truly is, and not the shadowed reflection perceived by us ordinary mortals.
Three Amazing Numbers
1080 – the Lunar number, the solar 666, and their sum 1746.
According to John Michell these three primary symbolic numbers together represent the trinity of powers – an elemental trinity, not personified, as in the Christian Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but combining the solar, generative element (666), its lunar, reflective opposite (1080) and their sum, 1746, number of the universal spirit.
The number 1080
The lunar or feminine number 1080 has the following correspondences:
108 Hindu rosary, 10800 stanzas in the Rigveda. 10800 bricks in the Zoroastrian fire altar, 1080 pillars round the Odinists hall of Valhalla, the 1080 minims that make up the Jewish hour, and the 10800 years in each of the fours seasons of the Hindu Kali Yuga. In astronomy 108 is the mean distance between the earth and the sun. 108 is the atomic weight of silver, the 10888 degree angles of the pentagram and the 1080 breaths taken in one hour.
John Michell explains that in the ancient art of gematria which links Greek or Hebrew letters to numbers to extract meaning, the number 1080 relates to the Holy spirit of Christianity and the Earth Spirit of the Pagan religion.
The number 666
John Michell explains that the numbers in Revelations can be understood once you understand St John’s training as a Gnostic mystic. All the number in Revelations are linked to Gematria (linking ancient Hebrew or Greek letters to numbers) and from this can be derived the true meaning behind the number 666 as laid down in Revelations. John Michell has this to say about 666: ‘On the opposite pole to 1080 is 666, a number regarded with superstitious awe by those who associate it with the Devil. This idea goes back to St John and Revelation 13 where he identified the ‘number of the Beast’ by the three Greek letters: Chi, Xi and Sigma ie 600, 60 and 6.
The number 666 is the thirty-sixth triangular number. Is is the sum of all the numbers up to 36. These number 1 to 36 also form what is known as a magic square where each line column and diagonal adds up to 111 and the whole to 666. The traditional name for this, the magic square of the Sun, acknowledges the solar symbolism of 666.
The first twelve numbers, split into two halves, are curiously productive of the solar number, for:
1x2x3x4x5x6 = 720
7x8x9x10x11x12 = 665280
In St John’s account there are actually two beasts. The first one he sees rising up from the sea, and the second is born from the earth. The second beast sets up the first as an idol, an object of compulsory worship. To discover the name of the first beast, St John tells his readers to work out his number, for it is the number of a man,’and his number is 666′.
John Michell continues that ‘this passage has perplexed the learned for almost two millennia, while generations of fanatics have laboured to identify the man with the number 666 as the Antichrist. The second beast, who establishes the first as the object of a worldwide cult, is clearly some ruling authority. That in St John’s time, would have been the Roman empire of the Roman Church that succeeded it. As the the first beast, whose image, marked with a deadly wound, was made the chief emblem of the cult, he must have been a religious leader, officially venerated but disdained as an idol by St John and the early Christian Gnostics.
The answer to this conundrum is made plain through the esoteric code of symbolic number that St John makes use of throughout his book. In the last verse of Revelation 13 he wrote: ‘Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding (nous) count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man’. The comes the key phrase: ‘And his number is 666’. In that phrase, is concealed a number, not the exoteric 666 that needs no counting, but a number that emerges by adding up the numerical values of the letters in the phrase. They amount to 2368. This number in Gematria is Jesus Christ. But St John warns that only those with understanding – meaning those initiated into the mysteries of symbolic number – should count the number. The word ‘beast (therion), used in old-fashioned translations of the New Testament, means simply a wild animal, there is nothing ‘beastly’ about the number 666. Numbers symbolize natural principles which in themselves are neither good nor evil. The number 666 is the polar opposite of 1080, and is is also its complement and partner. 1080 is the essential lunar number, applying to the world of imagination and the gifts of the holy spirit, whereas 666 refers to pure solar energy. As the symbolic number of the sun, 666 implies male authority and the principle of reason. Were it not for 666 and what it stands for the world would lose its vitality and grow sterile. In the names and phrases that yield this number through gematria can be seen its overall character:
666 = the mind, understanding, reason and from God or from above’.
